Downtown Lightbox Exhibit

*Note: Due to an unforeseen delay, the exhibit will now be on display starting on Thursday, March 7, 2024. We apologize for any inconvenience.
In the Spring, Charlottetown comes alive with music, with several exciting events and celebrations in the capital, including Music PEI Week (March 6 to 10, 2024) and the East Coast Music Awards (May 1 to 5, 2024).
To add to the vibrancy of downtown Charlottetown during these activities, the City of Charlottetown launched a call to artists in January for a lightbox exhibit on the theme of “Music and Sounds of the Island.”
The resulting exhibit, Ensemble: Music and Sounds of the Island – features 15 original artworks by 15 Island-based artists.
Places resonate with melodies and music as diverse as their history, people, and landscapes. From the lapping rhythm of ocean waves to traditional folk music, the Island’s soundscape is part of the auditory identity that makes it so unique. This lightbox exhibit demonstrates artists’ ability to represent the music and sounds of the Island in visual form, creating a sensory experience that showcases the artistic talent of our community and the distinct sonic realm of the Island.

All 15 lightboxes can be seen along the self-guided Charlottetown Art Walk route. Print copies of the pamphlet are available at the Visitors Information Centre at City Hall (199 Queen Street) during regular business hours, and digital copies are available for download below.
