Food Charter

What is a Food Charter?

A Food Charter is a document that states a value, vision, or principle statement and/or series of goals set by a region related to it's food system. Food Charters help communities, like Charlottetown, define what their food system should look like. These documents are non-binding, and  act as a guide or reference for program and policy makers to ensure that any action in the food system can be related back to key objectives.

The process of developing a Food Charter for a region is typically led by the Food Council that exists within that region. The Charlottetown Food Council members have worked thoughtfully and collaboratively to develop a Food Charter that defines a sustainable food system and describes the values and actions that will support the development of a sustainable food system in Charlottetown.
