Sustainable Events

Events can have a wide variety of negative environmental impacts, including the creation of large amounts of waste. As a result, the City of Charlottetown is making a concerted effort to improve the sustainability of events happening in Charlottetown.

In addition to the pre-existing City Event Guidelines, which outlines numerous logistical considerations for planning events in Charlottetown, the City has released a Sustainable Events Manual and Food Vendor Guidelines. These resources are intended to guide and support the planning of more sustainable events as pertains to waste management, water, and transportation. The City also has a number of event rentals available that can help event planners to increase the sustainability of their event. These include portable bicycle racks, waste sorting stations, and a mobile water bottle refill station. Click here for more information.

All event organizers planning an event within the City of Charlottetown are encouraged to review these resources and to make every effort to run a more sustainable event. Sustainability is a hot topic on Islander's minds and implementing more sustainable initiatives presents an opportunity to promote your event and attract additional event goers!

DID YOU KNOW?
As of 2015, the City of Charlottetown Street Vendors Bylaw states that vendors are banned from using Styrofoam packaging.

Styrofoam, a form of plastic, does not biodegrade, is non-recyclable, and often ends up in the environment where it wreaks havoc on marine life. Furthermore, it contains toxins that pose a potential health risk to wildlife and humans.
