Summer 2024 Victoria Park Eco-Activities

 

Groups of 10-25 children between the ages of 5-13 can sign-up for hands-on, outdoor fun in nature! These tours run all day Monday and Friday, and Wednesday mornings. Tours are typically 1 hour long but can be adjusted to suit the needs of your group. Registration is mandatory.

To book a tour, we ask you to contact [email protected] indicating the date you would like to book, the number of children who will be attending, the preferred activity, the time you’ll be arriving, and how long you would like the tour.

Choose from the following activities:

Wildlife Adventure
Discover the incredible wildlife of Victoria Park and how they make the forest their home. Owls, frogs and squirrels, oh my! See some of our pond swimming and tree dwelling creatures up close and discover what they need to survive.

Art in the Park
Join us for arts and crafts in the park! Learn about local owls while making pinecone owls, talk trees while making leaf rubbings, or chat about foxes and raccoons during a guided drawing session!

Arboretum Adventure
Join us while we explore our beautiful arboretum! Learn about the native species in the arboretum by making leaf rubbings or using our nature senses. Following the tree activities, hunt around for some creepy crawlers or do a native flower scavenger hunt!

Self-Led Nature Activities

Every week this summer, a self-led nature activity will be available to pick-up near the Victoria Park clubhouse off Forbes Kennedy Way. The activities encourage nature-learning along with meaningful and fun time outside. Activities take around 30 minutes to one hour and can be completed in the park.

Victoria Park Arboretum Self-Guided Tour

(click map image above for full tree tour details) Take a walk in the Victoria Park Arboretum and discover some of Prince Edward Island’s native trees, shrubs and wildflowers in the native plant garden. 

The arboretum at Victoria Park displays a diversity of woody plants representing Prince Edward Island’s native flora. Located in a woodland just south of the ball fields, the arboretum is a popular area for picnics and quiet activities. By its original definition, an arboretum is a botanical garden made up only of trees. At Victoria Park, the arboretum is comprised of both native trees and shrubs, some of which are quite rare!

In 1873, 40 acres of private Government Farm owned by the Lieutenant Governor was given as a gift to the citizens of PEI. Much of what is now park trails was landscaped, having once been agricultural land. Several non-native species, such as Norway maple, are present in the woods of Victoria Park due to ornamental plantings that occurred during the early development of the park. As time goes on, the arboretum will continue to grow, displaying the beauty of our Island’s native species for generations to come.
