Environment and Sustainability

The Environment and Sustainability Department collaborates with internal staff to manage the City’s natural assets, reduce carbon emissions, and ensure that City operations are environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable. Additionally, the department partners with external groups and individuals to enhance Charlottetown’s natural areas, ecosystem services, sustainable transportation, energy efficiency, food security, and climate resilience. It oversees programs such as energy reduction initiatives, climate action planning, management of natural areas and urban forests, water conservation and flood prevention, food and waste programs, and supports public transit and active transportation.
