Fall Maintenance Program for Hydrants to Begin Oct. 7
Posted on 10/02/2024
The City of Charlottetown Water and Sewer Utility will begin its fall maintenance program starting Monday, Oct. 7.
The program includes water and sewer maintenance checks along with hydrant flushing. During flushing, hydrants will be operated at full capacity for approximately three to five minutes each until the water runs clear. Water will flow freely at a high velocity to ensure proper hydrant operation and to flush sediment from the pipe network.
Residents are asked to stay clear of areas containing hydrants as they are being flushed. This maintenance may cause a temporary discolouration of the water supply and/or a slight drop in water pressure for residences. To solve this, run the taps in your home for one to three minutes until pressure is restored and the water runs clear.
Hydrant flushing is considered preventative maintenance and helps to keep water quality high. The seasonal program looks at flow, pressure and capacity and works to ensure the City has safe and clean drinking water.
The Charlottetown Water and Sewer Utility thanks the public for their patience and cooperation. For more information or to report an issue, please contact (902) 629-4014.
