P.E.I. Marathon Charlottetown Traffic Impacts

The City of Charlottetown is advising residents of traffic-related impacts from the Prince Edward Island Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20.

Saturday, Oct. 19

The 10 km run/walk, 5 km run/walk, 2 km wheelchair and Kids Fox Trot events begin at Prince Street by Confederation Landing.

The following roads will be closed from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.:

• Water Street between Prince Street and Haviland Street
• Haviland Street between Water Street and Richmond Street
• Richmond Street/West Street from Rochford Street to Kent Street
• Victoria Park Roadway and Kent Street from Brighton Road to West Street

In addition to road closures, traffic delays are expected along the route from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and will impact Queen Elizabeth Drive, Charlotte Drive, Edinburgh Drive, Brittany Drive, Maplewood Crescent and Woodbine Crescent.

Sunday, Oct. 20

The full marathon, team relay, half-marathon run/walk and 16 km run/walk will begin on Great George Street near Grafton Street.

The following roads will be closed from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

• Great George Street between Fitzroy Street and Grafton Street
• Grafton Street between Queen Street and Church Street
• Kent Street between Queen Street and Great George Street

The following street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

• University Avenue/Great George Street between Kirkwood Drive/Allen Street and Fitzroy Street

Traffic delays are expected along the marathon route in the morning and early afternoon including the Arterial Highway at the Malpeque Road and Mount Edward Road intersections, Belvedere Avenue from Mount Edward Road westward, and intersections along Malpeque Road/University Avenue from Sherwood Road to Kirkwood Drive/Allen Street. Runners will also be active in the Brighton neighbourhood.

In addition to street closures, no parking will be permitted in the following areas on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 12 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until the event concludes:

• Grafton Street between Queen Street and Church Street
• Great George Street between Fitzroy Street and Grafton Street
• Kent Street between Queen Street and Great George Street

Motorists are asked to plan ahead and use caution when travelling throughout the city during Marathon weekend.
