Public Meeting Scheduled to Consider Establishment of New Business Improvement Area
Charlottetown City Council will hold a public meeting to receive comments from residents and business owners regarding the proposed establishment of the West Royalty Business & Bioscience Business Improvement Area.
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a defined geographic area in which local businesses work together to enhance and promote their commercial district. With the approval of City Council, a special levy is collected on the commercial assessment within the area and may be used by the BIA to fund improvements such as marketing and promotion, streetscape enhancements, events, and other initiatives that support business development.
BIAs in Charlottetown are governed by the
Business Improvement Area Bylaw, which requires that a public meeting be held to provide residents and business owners with an opportunity to share their input before a new BIA is established.
