Bike Bus Returns for Spring Season

Bike Bus Returns for Spring Season
Posted on 04/24/2026
The Charlottetown Bike Bus is back for the remainder of the school year.

A Bike Bus operates like a school bus, but rather than a big yellow vehicle, it is a group of students and adult volunteers biking to and from school safely together. School buses run on gas or electricity; bike buses run on joy!

The City of Charlottetown is advising residents and motorists to watch for an increase in student cyclists before and after school hours. Motorists are asked to slow down and be alert for group rides in the following areas from now until the end of the school year:
• the Brighton neighbourhood, as well as Fitzroy St. and Longworth Ave., on Thursdays
• the East Royalty neighbourhood on Fridays, and
• the Sherwood neighbourhood on Wednesdays.

The City thanks residents and visitors for taking extra care as young cyclists travel to and from school.

The Bike Bus program supports actions in the City’s Climate Action Plan to partner with the community and promote active transportation. Participating schools report that the program has increased the number of students who cycle independently, even on days when group rides are not scheduled, and has strengthened the sense of community within schools.
