Today, the City of Charlottetown, along with the Honourable Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of PEI, and Friends of the Farm, unveiled the newly planted Queen’s Crown Garden at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) Charlottetown Research and Development Centre, which this year is dedicated to the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
This official dedication and garden party is an opportunity to celebrate 2022 as the year Her Majesty the Queen will be celebrating 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.
The garden bed, designed and planted by the Friends of the Farm, represents the Queen’s Crown. The jubilant garden was originally created to commemorate the visit of HRH Queen Elizabeth II to PEI in 1973.
Since then, the Friends of the Farm has managed and maintained the Queen’s Crown Garden at the AAFC Charlottetown Research and Development Centre. The City of Charlottetown has supported this initiative for several years by providing grant funding for flowers, and this year has provided additional funds to assist with watering the garden.
Residents can view the Queen’s Crown Garden, located between Crown Drive and Ravenwood Drive East off Mount Edward Road, at any time.
