Victoria Park Shore Protection Project Completed Early
Posted on 12/18/2024
Victoria Park Roadway and Boardwalk in Charlottetown reopened to the public today, Dec. 18, following the early completion of the Victoria Park Shore Protection Project. Originally scheduled to conclude on Dec. 31, 2024, the project was completed ahead of schedule ensuring the park is ready for use before the holidays.
The project addressed the shoreline section from the end of Brighton Road to the south median, reinforcing it with durable granite stone to replace the eroded sandstone. This essential enhancement will provide long-term protection to the park’s shoreline and adjacent infrastructure, including the boardwalk, roadway, swimming pool, playground and nearby properties. The improvements ensure Victoria Park remains a safe and enjoyable destination for residents and visitors alike for years to come.
“Victoria Park is a cherished space for our community and I am thrilled to see the shore protection project completed ahead of schedule,” said Councillor Mitchell Tweel, Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Leisure Activities Committee. “By reinforcing our shoreline, we are safeguarding this beloved park and its amenities for future generations. I commend everyone involved in this effort for their dedication and hard work.”
The City thanks residents for their patience during the construction period and invites everyone to take advantage of the lovely weather today and visit Victoria Park.
Protecting the Victoria Park shoreline supports the City’s strategic plan by enhancing key infrastructure and safeguarding the natural environment.
