Charlottetown City Council has approved a direction for the Queen Street Parkade that will see the facility remain open and operational for approximately three years while the City plans for its eventual replacement and redevelopment.
The parkade remains safe and operational. The City will continue targeted repairs, ongoing maintenance and regular monitoring to ensure it remains a safe and reliable parking option while longer-term plans are developed.
At the Sept. 8 regular meeting, Council voted to maintain the existing parkade in the near term while the City explores options for a fourth downtown parkade, in line with the recently adopted
Parking Management Strategy. Maintaining the existing facility during this period will preserve nearly 340 downtown parking spaces while allowing the City time to determine the best approach for its eventual replacement.
Council has not approved a specific development or construction project for the Queen Street property. Any future redevelopment would require further planning, financial analysis and Council approval.
