City’s Signature Charlottetown Christmas Festival Events Announced

Residents are invited to mark their calendars with the City of Charlottetown’s lineup of festive events including the Charlottetown Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade, and the return of the Holiday Home Decorating Contest and Capital New Year.

Event-specific announcements with additional details will be posted on the City's social media channels, Facebook at @CityofCharlottetown, Instagram at @CityofCharlottetown and the City's website in the coming weeks.

Christmas Tree Lighting
Date: Friday, Nov. 28
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Confederation Centre of the Arts, Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza, Grafton Street
Details: Featuring live performances by Lefunk, Brooke MacArthur & Luka Hall, and Rachel Beck along with special guest appearances and refreshments. The evening begins with a candlelight promenade departing from the Confederation Landing Park Gazebo at 6:15 p.m., followed by the official Tree Lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on the Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Charlottetown Christmas Parade
Date: Saturday, Nov. 29
Time: 5 p.m., beginning at UPEI
Details: The Charlottetown Christmas Parade returns to the capital city on Nov. 29! For full information, including details on the parade route, donations of non-perishable food items, a sensory-friendly viewing zone and the collection of letters to Santa along the route, visit charlottetown.ca/parade or call (902) 566-5548.

A reminder that float applications are being accepted until Wednesday, Nov. 19 for community group participation in the parade. Entries must fall within the following categories: float, walking group or band. There is no entry fee to participate. Application forms are available online or in person at City Hall, 199 Queen St.

Holiday Home Decorating Contest
Date: Registration is open until Sunday, Dec. 7
Details: Get out the Christmas decorations! The Holiday Home Decorating Contest is the perfect time to show off your holiday cheer with festive decorations on the exterior of your home or property. Entries will be judged the week of Dec. 8 on the following criteria: use of natural materials, use of lighting, creativity and overall design. Residents have three registration options: fill out the online form, email [email protected] or call (902) 566-5548.

Capital New Year
Date: Wednesday, Dec. 31
Location: Founders' Food Hall & Market, 6 Prince St.
Details: Celebrate New Year's Eve with free, family-friendly activities including live music, a photo booth, giveaways and fireworks display at 7 p.m. Capital New Year is a partnership between the City of Charlottetown and Founders' Food Hall & Market.
