The Charlottetown Fire Department recently welcomed nine new volunteer firefighters to the department along with a new full-time platoon chief. These additions bring the department’s firefighting team to 26 career members and 85 volunteer members, strengthening its emergency response capabilities and reinforcing the City’s commitment to public safety.
“We’re thrilled to welcome these new team members,” said Fire Chief Tim Mamye. “Their addition means we’re growing stronger and help us continue to provide safe, reliable service to the community.”
The following new volunteer firefighters completed the requisite nine-month training program and were officially presented with their helmet on June 2, 2025:
• Akinkunle Akinbinu
• Taylor Gallant
• Brayden Gautreau
• Albin Job
• Sainadh Kilaru
• Gabe MacAusland
• Miles Miao
• Tessa Rogers
• Niloofar Sifihesar
Scott Ryan was the successful candidate for one of the four platoon chief positions created last year to work the 24-hour shifts alongside three-person platoons, responding when firefighters are dispatched to an emergency. This ensures a minimum of a four-person response to all emergencies, and increases reliability, accountability and safety in all operations.
“We’re proud to support the hiring of new firefighters for Charlottetown,” said Mayor Philip Brown. “It’s a positive step forward that reflects our commitment to public safety and to the dedicated teams who protect our residents every day.”
The department has also launched its yearly recruitment campaign for volunteer firefighters. Residents over the age of 19 have the opportunity to make an impact in their community. All volunteer firefighters learn valuable skills which can be transferred to their professional and personal lives and receive training, leadership development skills, insurance coverage and annual honorariums.
