Posted on 10/14/2026
The City of Charlottetown is advising residents and motorists of upcoming roadwork on North River Road and Lower Malpeque Road, beginning October 15, 2026.

The work will include asphalt milling and resurfacing along Lower Malpeque Road, between Gates Drive and Capital Drive, as well as several infrastructure improvements in the surrounding area.

Additional work will include:

• Stormwater upgrades and the installation of new curbing on the west side of Lower Malpeque Road near the intersection.
• Crosswalk upgrades at the intersection of Lower Malpeque Road and Kirkdale Road.
• Road widening and lane reconfiguration on North River Road, between Capital Drive and Thomson Drive.

Construction is expected to take approximately five to six weeks, weather permitting.

Work affecting traffic lanes will be restricted to weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., outside peak commuting hours. When lane closures are required, traffic control personnel will direct alternating traffic through the construction area. Paving work is scheduled to take place overnight to minimize traffic disruptions.

Some traffic delays can be expected throughout construction. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area or use alternate routes where possible.
Access to local businesses and properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Motorists are asked to use caution when travelling through the construction area, follow posted signage and obey the directions of traffic control personnel.

The City thanks residents and motorists for their patience and co-operation during this work.
